Vietnam – Halong Bay

Cruising Halong Bay in a junk was one of the highlights of a quick trip to Vietnam. In the center of the compilation below, I picked seafood for dinner from a floating market.  Bottom right is yet another scene depicted on currency … yes, that is “200,000” Vietnamese Dong … about a whole US$11 … who wants to be a millionaire?! ;-)

The rock formations in Halong Bay reminded me a little of the karsts in Yangshuo, China.

This year I spent Chinese New Year in Taiwan with my friends Corbett and Irene.  Anyone who knows me knows I love food … and let me tell you, Taiwan is a food lover’s paradise!  The night markets (夜市) in Taiwan are infamous, and we sampled at least a half dozen of them across the island during my visit.  Chou doufu (臭豆腐), known as “stinky tofu” in English, is one of my favorite snacks in the night markets (see first picture below).  This fermented treat is best with plenty of spicy chili sauce … yum!
